At this point we've all heard about the difference between sativa and indica weed but what's the difference between exotic and regular weed. Exotic weed was known for only being grown in places with warm climates, like California or Hawaii but nowadays with the beauty of modern technology, exotic weed can be grown anywhere.
What exactly is Exotic Weed?
Depending on who you're talking to about their definition of exotic weed, it was explained to me in simple terms, that exotic weed is a rarer and a more potent strain of cannabis. The THC content tend to be higher in exotic but, in some instances, it's just the unique flavor or aromas from crossing different strains that make it "exotic."
The more popular aromatic compounds, known as terpenes, found in exotic strains include myrcene, limonene, and pinene. Our Apple Jack is a prime example of an exotic weed due to its unique terpene profile and parent strains of Jack Herer and White Widow.

Key Difference Between Exotic and Regular Weed
Both types of weed get the job done but the question is which one is for you. Below is a list of the main differences to help you decide...
Potency. Exotic weed is typically having a higher THCa percentage.
Price. Because "exotic" can be marketed different than regular weed, dispensaries and growers tend to charge the consumer more. Is using the term "exotic" a marketing scam, that's up to you to decide. But, if you’re looking to save money, buy regular weed.
Availability. Exotics are harder to find than regular strains and are often sold by craft growers.
Terpene Profile. One of the biggest differences between exotic and regular weed is the terpenes that make up the flavor and aromas. Exotic strains often have unique and complex flavor profiles that make for a tasty treat to any cannabis connoisseur. Regular weed strains still give a great flavor profile but may lack that punch that exotic weed offers.
Cannabinoid Composition. Exotic strains are known for their carefully curated cannabinoid compositions. Breeders focus on creating specific ratios out of the hundreds of cannabinoids that the cannabis plant offers, not necessarily just higher THC content.
Grow Conditions. Exotic strains often require more controlled and precise growing conditions. Specific temperature, humidity, and nutrient levels are essential to growing exotic strains the right way. Hydroponics is a popular way to grow exotic weed due to the ability to control all aspects of the different stages of the cannabis plant from seedling to maturity. Regular weed strains may be more forgiving and adaptable to a wider range of growing conditions like growing outdoors, making them more easily accessible to home growers and larger-scale operations that sell in bulk to smaller entities.
Hope this article clears some questions on the differences between exotic weed and normal weed. So many cannabis consumers that I talk to get caught up in the exotic and kush hype that they look down on "regular weed'. Today's regular weed has a significant better taste and smell than the weed I grew up on in the 90's and early 2000's. Treat yourself to exotic weed if its breed with some of your favorite strains but if you're more budget conscious, regular weed is still an excellent option to kick back, relax and take in the medicinal benefits.
